Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. The two main types of scoliosis are juvenile (children) and adult. In children, scoliosis is usually a genetic disorder that runs in families. In adults, the more common cause is degeneration (wearing out of the spine). Treatment for scoliosis is usually nonsurgical, but sometimes, if a curve is rapidly progressing or nerves are at risk, surgery can correct the curvature and make room for the nerves. |
